So now your project has been launched and you edit, or you create your website. Beyond all the graphics and technical aspects for which you will be advised and guided by your favorite web marketing agency, the content of your website is also important and you can choose to outsource the writing of your texts or write it yourself.
Writing yes, but not in any way and this is when it gets complicated. If you want to be SEO friendly to be in the top search results of Google, you will need to follow some basic rules of SEO content.
The concept of SEO content you shall understand
SEO or “Search Engine Optimization”is the process of optimizing the content of your website (your text) on specific keywords so Google can see that your content is relevant and of quality. The quality of your content will then affect the position of your website in the search results. We will also talk about SEO in opposition to paid search (PPC).
In summary, the goal is that your website appears on the first page of Google, to increase your visibility and your business opportunities.
Quality SEO content you shall favor
We will see later some guidelines for the drafting of SEO texts of your website, but be warned, the work is twofold; you must respect the rules of SEO content and produce work of quality. You need to attract and retain visitors on your website, but you also need to demonstrate to Google that your content is original and relevant. No more copy paste of articles/interesting websites as Google would notice and your website would be sanctioned.
Of course some topics have been discussed many times and we will not revolutionize the universe! Unless you have developed a teleportation device because then you would undeniably be a forerunner in this! It is therefore important to say things with your own words, your own experience, and why not, a bit of humor.
You should also pay attention to spelling, because too many mistakes could penalize you. An excessive use of keywords isn’t good either, and this is when the expression “fine-tuned combination” makes sense!

Keywords in your SEO content you shall use
The selection and use of keywords will determine a good SEO on the Internet. These should be appropriate words or expressions, that you choose very carefully and that you insert naturally in your texts following the SEO content editorial guidelines.
Here is a concrete example. You, basic web users and myself do their Internet research using keywords such as “Chinese Restaurant Outremont.” If you are a restaurateur located in Outremont that offers Chinese cuisine, the use of these keywords is in fact very relevant.
When creating SEO content, do not choose a keyword:
- That is already overused,
- That is too general (e.g. hairdresser)
- That is not searched a lot: the keyword must match research commonly made by people on the Internet.
- That is not located, e.g. “Plumber” vs. “Quebec Plumber.” It is important to target your local customers.
- That does not correspond to searches for your products.

In choosing your title in SEO content, you shall care
Your title is important. This is what the web user and Google see first. One of SEO’s editorial guideline is to insert your keywords in your title. Of course, it should not be used as it is, but it must be integrated into a catchphrase (we remind you that the main goal is always to hold the attention of your readers). It is generally advisable to also put keywords in subtitles.
Writing in an SEO fashion requires you to structure your texts through the use of a title, and subtitles (H web beacon for search engines). This not only serves to make the text more airy and easy to read, but it also shows Google the divisions of your articles. Using different typefaces such as bold or italic is also recommended for the SEO writing of your texts.

There are other parameters to consider for a good optimization of your SEO content:
- Images
Not only do they attract the reader’s attention, but you can also customize your article by inserting a little bit of humor for example. By indexing them, they will also support your SEO content strategy (image name, ALT tag and caption). Be careful though that your images are not too “heavy” and do not penalize the loading of your site, as it is well known, web users (and I include myself in the lot) are not patient!
- The meta description (tags for indexing the page by search engines)
- The use of external links (web linking)
