Considering that 9 in 10 people do a local search at least once a week and that 70% of them will go to a physical store nearby, this question is one worth asking. If you are a local business, you should absolutely put time into optimizing your local presence. If you are a national or international company, we would have to do a market and competition study to answer your question effectively. Local SEO is the process of optimizing a business, product or service for a search query that is location-specific (SEMrush definition). Google relies on two main criteria to determine whether a search is local or not:

  • Does the search include the name of a city, street, etc.?
  • What is the geolocation of the device the search is done from?

The goal is for Google to offer the most relevant results without the need for users to fill in too much information about their search intents.
